SubjectThursday review
Can we move the review to Thursday afternoon? I have a conflict in the morning.

It types where your cursor is.

It works in Mail, Notes, your chat apps, your code editor and any browser tab, without plug-ins or extensions.

  1. Press your shortcut

In any text field on your Mac. Choose your own shortcut in Settings: a key combination, or a modifier key on its own, like Option.

  2. Talk the way you think

Pause, restart, say "um". Smart Cleanup drops the filler words and false starts on your device.

  3. Press again and it types

Clean, punctuated text appears at your cursor. On Mac, your clipboard is put back afterwards, unless you copy something new in the meantime.

One voice, the right tone for each app.

On Mac, Style sets the punctuation for each kind of app, so a note to a friend reads differently from a note to a client. Pick one:

Hi Rosalind, thanks for the Q3 numbers. They look right to me. Can we lock the board deck by Thursday afternoon?

An email Style: Polished

Meeting notes with no bot in the call.

Press Start Meeting Notes and SpeakVeil writes a live transcript on your device. On Mac, it records your microphone and call audio. When you stop, it removes filler words and labels who spoke.

Get permission from the people you record.

Nothing joins your call
No assistant joins your video call or shows up in its participant list. Your Mac records the call's sound itself.
Speaker labels
SpeakVeil works out who spoke when on your Mac after the meeting ends. On Mac, the live lines read You and Them, and when you stop, two or more people on the other side become Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on. One person there stays Them.
Headphones are fine
The Mac takes the other side of the call from the system audio, so it still hears them while you wear headphones.
Upcoming meetings
Connect Calendar on your Mac and the dictation bar lists your next meetings with a Take notes button. Calendar stays off until you connect it.

Illustrative walkthrough · You choose when to send.

Send it on. Teach it your words.

On Mac, every dictation on Home has a send button. Pick an AI chat, a chat app, Mail or Notes and SpeakVeil puts the text there for you to send. Teach it your names and shortcuts once and it uses them in every app.

Dictionary
Say "post gres" and get Postgres. Say "cube control" and get kubectl. Names like Nasrin and Dr. Okafor come out spelled right.
Snippets
Say "my email" or "sign off" and the full text lands.
Voice Actions
Select text, hold the Voice Actions shortcut and say what to change. The rewrite happens on your Mac.

39 languages, all on your device.

25 are built in. 14 more come with a free download, including Persian, Arabic, Chinese and Japanese. On Mac, you can tag each shortcut with one language or leave it on Auto-detect.

Your voice is not cloud data.

Speech recognition, cleanup and speaker labels run on your Mac, not on a server. The app has no account, no analytics and no ads. After model setup, speech processing works offline. Mac Pro has a seven-day licence grace period.

  • SpeakVeil processes your voice, text and notes on your device. You choose what to share; your device backups may include saved content. See the privacy policy.
  • It never records or screenshots your screen, and SpeakVeil trains no model on what you say. On Mac it reads text in other apps only for Voice Actions (the text you select) and when you send a dictation to an app (to check its text box is empty).

Connections for setup and maintenance

The app has no general-purpose networking. The requests below carry no voice, text or notes. You can share content with other apps or search the web when you choose; the privacy policy covers those actions and device backups.

WhereWhenWhat it sends
Hugging Face Mac The first time a feature needs a model, or when you add a language A request for a model file, pinned to a fixed version. No audio, text or notes.
Polar Mac, Pro only When you enter or remove a key, choose Restore, or the app rechecks your licence The key and a device label such as "Mac · 3f2a · 2026-10-19". No usage counts or device identifiers. Checks run daily, or hourly after an unreachable check; pending key removals retry for up to 30 days.
speakveil.ai Mac A daily update check, which you can turn off The app's name and version. Every update is signed, and nothing installs until you confirm.

Check it yourself: dictate with Wi-Fi off, or watch the app in a network monitor such as Little Snitch. The privacy policy lists every detail.

On-device, compared with cloud dictation.

Most dictation apps send your voice to a server to be transcribed. Here is what changes when the work happens on your Mac instead, including where the cloud apps come out ahead.

Question SpeakVeil Typical cloud dictation
Where your speech is turned into text On your Mac On the provider's servers
Audio upload for transcription None; transcription runs on-device Yes, so it can be transcribed
Works with Wi-Fi off Yes, after model setup. Mac Pro has a seven-day licence grace period. Usually needs a connection
Account None Usually needs a sign-in
Reads text in your other apps On Mac, only when you ask: the text you select for Voice Actions, or the box you send a dictation to. Some read text in the active window, with a setting
The model you rely on Pinned; changes only when you update Runs on servers the provider can update
Windows and Android No. Mac only Some offer them
Sync between your devices No. Each device keeps its own history Some sync through your account

"Typical cloud dictation" describes how popular cloud apps work according to their own help, privacy and data-control pages, read on 20 October 2026. Policies change, so check any app's current page before you rely on it.

SpeakVeil runs speech recognition, Smart Cleanup and meeting transcription on your device. Setup and maintenance requests carry no dictated content. You can share text with other apps, and device backups or folders you choose may sync saved content. The privacy policy explains sharing, backups and network connections.
Any Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer) running macOS 15 or later. It does not run on Intel Macs. The speech model takes about 470 MB and Smart Cleanup about 1.4 GB of disk. The download page walks through the first launch.
Yes, once the models have downloaded. Mac Pro checks your licence once a day while the app runs. If your Mac cannot reach the licence server for more than 7 days, it falls back to free-plan limits until a successful check. Dictation keeps working within the free limits: 2,500 words and 1 meeting a month. See the privacy policy.
Not yet. It is coming soon, with its own keyboard and its own plans through the App Store. A Mac licence will not unlock it, and the free word limits differ between the two apps.
No. Mac and iPhone are separate purchases, and there is no account. Buy SpeakVeil Pro for Mac on this site. Polar runs our store, and the licence key you get there unlocks the Mac app only. The iPhone app is coming soon, and you will buy its plans inside the app, through the App Store. A Mac licence will not unlock it.
On Mac, SpeakVeil records your microphone and the call's sound from the Mac itself, so nobody new appears in the participant list. Get permission from the people you record.
It depends on you. Most people speak faster than they type, and a Stanford study of phone keyboards found the same. On Mac, the Insights page shows your own speaking speed, so you can compare.
